My Future

adelesjourney1

To me, my future has always seemed like a clouded one to me and now it seems more clouded than ever.

When I was at school I thought I would have a 10 year plan in which I would end up with a degree, walk into my dream job, find myself a husband, have a beautiful house with children and a dog and live a happy life. You’re laughing right now I know! It makes me laugh too, I was definitely a gullible 16 year old!

At 21 years old I am well aware that this will not be the case, and I am totally ok with that. I am nowhere near ready for any of it, but even more so, I never knew what my dream job would be nor have I gained a degree which I thought I would have by now. And do you know what? I am totally ok with that.

It’s now been 6 months since I found out I wouldn’t be graduating and only this year have I come to terms with it. Of course there will always be the questions of what if? What could have been? What will I do with my life? Obviously the first two will never be answered but the answer to the last one is that I will take each day as it comes. There’s not really any other way around it. I’ve learnt that I can’t plan out my future, life just doesn’t work like that and anyway where would be the fun in that?

Love The Current Season | Spring

I wrote a post about what I love about Autumn last year, so I thought it was about time I did another one, seeing as it is a new season and all.

winter

I personally love this time of year, I actually enjoy the rain showers and wrapping up warm. All those layers, scarves and gloves and oversize jumpers.

7 years ago it would have been all about Ugg Boots and Jack Wills. Boy are those days behind me and I’m so glad! It’s all about Primark now!

However, I really don’t enjoy the short hours of daylight and by daylight I mean grey clouds that make me want to hide in bed and do nothing all day.

Although the miserable weather outside means it’s totally acceptable to stay indoors in the warm and do all of my favourite things: blogging, writing, scrapbooking, baking and cooking.

Swings and roundabouts.

10 Ways To Improve Your Blog

adelesjourney1

I am always thinking of ways I want to improve my blog and although I love it just as it is, there are things I would do to improve it.

  • Change the blog design

  • Advertise on another blog

  • Add some more variety to blog posts (some more personal and some more recipes)

  • Re-write you “About Me’ page

  • Improve on photos

  • Learn some basic HTML

  • Learn a bit about SEO (I only know the very basics)

  • Find out more about your readers

  • Start up a newsletter

  • Reevaluate your blog layout

These are ways I would improve my own blog. How would you improve yours?

Inspiration

There are sources of inspiration that van be found wherever you look, I like to think that you can take as much or as little away from these situations.

flowerssuitcase

My first source of inspiration is Pinterest. There are so many pictures from any topic you can imagine. It’s so great and to see what other bloggers are looking at too is very interesting. It’s great to help with research for blog posts or other pieces of writing. But also for everyday life.

I love talking to my family, the things we talk about can get me thinking about all kinds of stuff which is great. Even if it gives me little bit of inspiration that’s enough for me. My family, themselves, are an inspiration as well, there are parts of their characters that I would love to be like.

family

At work a couple of weeks ago, I had a conversation with my manager that filled me with so much inspiration. I had to write everything down before I forgot it but something clicked and I was feeling very creative.

You may, or may not, have seen my post about the “This Girl Can” video. I think it had only been out a few hours but I was already blogging about it. I think this video is an inspiration to everyone out there and if you put your mind to something then you can definitely achieve it, I mean what’s really stopping  you?

At the beginning of the year I started my Day Zero Challenge. This is a list of 101 things I would like to do in 1001 days. These 101 things are listed under several different categories to break it up a little bit. I must say it is going very well and I have achieved a considerable amount in only 2 months. A few of them have been planned as well, like going to food shows and a festival. It really helps to have something like this as I have a whole variety of things I am doing and working towards that I wouldn’t have considered doing otherwise.

There are plenty of blogs out there that I read on a daily basis that are an inspiration. To name a few Lauren Shipley, Career Girl Daily, Hannah Gale and Diary of a Freelancer by Sweet Electric. I would love to do full time blogging and freelance work like these girls…one day!

family

This may sound somewhat self-centred, but myself! I should consider myself an inspiration a bit more, I ave achieved plenty and I aspire to do so much more so why shouldn’t I be inspired by what I have achieved?

Who or what inspires you?

Reverse Bucket List

I've seen a couple of posts about this now and I like the whole concept of the list.

scrapbook3

For those of your who aren't sure what that is, a reverse bucket list is essentially the opposite of a bucket list, so instead of noting what you want to do or where you want to go, you simply write down the things you've achieved and things that you're proud of.

Some things I've achieved are Bronze D of E Award (I mean hasn't everyone?), 2 A*'s at GCSE, 4 A Levels and I had a life changing experience at university. Obviously those are the lame things that most people achieve.

Some other things are going to New York (this was always a dream for me), performing in the Nutcracker with the Russian Ballet when I was like 9, teaching myself to cook, and of course, starting my blog.

I'm not going to share everything on my reverse bucket list, mainly because I want to be able to share the whole list when it's been written into my scrapbook.

Scrapbook #1

scrapbook1

In the recent months I’ve gotten quite into my scrapbooking. Documenting different areas of my life that I want to remember and also things that I’m proud of. I like having something to show for what I’ve done, even if it is some pictures and a little description.

I got a Smashbook for Christmas which I love, there are similar books you can get but mine came as a kit. All of the pages have different designs so you can set a theme or stick down whatever you want or even fill out tables. It also came with washi tape and stickers and all kinds of bits. There’s so much to play with.

scrapbook2

I got my first lot of photos from the free prints app, so you get 40 free photos a month and pay next to nothing for the postage. I must say I am seriously impressed with the quality.

I won’t share too many pictures with you so I can show you more when I’m done!

I’m also in the process of making an inspiration book, a book that I can look at regularly to remind me of my goals, to motivate me and inspire me when I have bad days (which can be quite often).

I’m hoping this will keep me on track and focused, but also remind me of things that make me happy! I will obviously share this when I’ve made progress on it!

Currently: What I'm Looking Forward To

family

There's always something to look forward to. For some people, myself included, we need events, holidays or just the odd day to look forward to, for some motivation and in all honesty - to keep going each day.

Therefore, in the coming months I'm looking forward to:

  • Eat Well Good Food Show

  • Taylor Swift at BST in Hyde park

  • My birthday

  • A potential mini holiday

  • Mother's Day - I've found an amazing present mum!

  • Days filled with blogging

  • One Direction (in September)

  • Camp Bestival

And all the many other things that I have planned to do.

It's time to get more ticked off my challenge list!

Adeles Journey #2

adelesjourney1

At the beginning of the year, I set myself a whole bunch of blogging goals that I wanted to achieve by the end of the year.

I set them reasonably low because in my first six months of blogging, my followers on all forms of social media were not increasing all that much, so I set my goals based on that.

Little did I know less than 6 weeks into the year I have almost reached those goals. It feels amazing and I cannot thank my followers and readers enough for giving me that little bit of confidence that I needed to know my blog is still going in the right direction.

You will have seen my post last week about self confidence on #takebackwhatsyours and its little things like this that give me a bit more confidence that I need.

This is mainly just to say, thank you.

Don't forget to check out my most recent project Spring Gift Swap.

Spring Gift Swap

springgiftswap

Happy Sunday!

As you may or may not have known, I am organising a Spring Gift Swap! It's very similar to gift swaps you may have done at Christmas between other bloggers and it's a great way to bring the community together. Also a perfect little pick-me-up for this time of the year where we're slightly stuck in limbo!

This is not your normal gift swap and you don’t have to limit yourself to just beauty products either. Let your imagination run wild!

The Spring theme is obviously seasonal but also for a lot of people this is a hard time of year. We’ve just gotten over the new year but the weather is still awful and we all need that little pick me up to get in the mood for spring. Think along the lines of pretty pastel colours, beautifully packaged gifts, inspirational postcards and maybe a lush product or two.

You don’t need to go wild and spend £50, a reasonable and affordable budget of £15 is plenty enough. Unless you’re feeling generous of course.

If you're interested in getting involved, or want to ask more questions, leave a comment and i'll get right back to you! This is not something to be missed!

I would love it if you could share this on twitter using the hashtag #springgiftswap and if you could share it on your blog to raise awareness of the swap, I would appreciate it a lot! Don’t forget the more people, the better matched up you will get with someone else!

#TakeBackWhat'sYours

takebackwhatsyours

I’ve been meaning to write a post on this for about a month now, but life got in the way and it’s not the most pleasurable topic to write about and I try to stay positive about things here.

Chloe from Chloe’s Concept was the one who came up with this campaign and an absolute amazing one it is at that. Because it’s really time to take back what’s yours. We all get stuck in that rut but it’s time to get out of that. The idea is that we benefit from this in the long term as opposed to the short term. We need to bring back all the happiness into our lives. The media attacks the blogging community but we all stand strong because we know that they’re just jealous.

So that’s exactly what I’m here to do. I’ve recently overheard people talking about the way I look, not the best feeling in the world I’m sure you’ll agree. As I’m writing this I’m crying, purely because I was hurt that people I respect a lot would do something like this. I was also quite ashamed about it that I kept it to myself. I should definitely not be doing that. I wouldn’t wish such a thing to happen to anyone.

I’m here, writing this, to take back my self confidence. Sure I can act confident, talk to strangers, I do that everyday, but that is an act. I’ve also been told quite recently that people worry about me. I’m not surprised at all, I worry about myself! I also sometimes cry uncontrollably, to the point where I’m a state and through the tears I can see how scared the people around me are. But you know where you’re around certain people and you’re all emotional? They can say one word and I’ll burst into tears. That scares them, and me. This is not a way to live my life.

The whole theme of my blog is a journey to a better life, perhaps I’ll rebrand it one day but I think that there is always a way that we can  have a better life. I know exactly what I want to work on to get my self confidence back, so that is what I will do, for me and for my future.

Please make sure you take a look at Chloe’s campaign and if you’ve done it, send me yours so I can see you #TakeBackWhatsYours.

How To Do Your Weekly Shop in £20

I’ve been dwelling on this one for a while, mainly because I’ve struggled to do this myself. My freezer is often packed full and I’ve realised that I need to use this up before I do another huge shop. This week I’ve managed to do my food shop for around £12, which means I can go to the market if I need more fruit and vegetables!

foodshop

This week I managed to get 5 frozen chicken breasts, some tins, your standard groceries, a tonne of fruit and washing tablets.

Considering I got the chicken and washing tablets I thought I did really well! There’s so many meals for me to make, mostly chicken with vegetables or chicken in a tomato sauce. Cheap and cheerful but really quite delicious! Nothing a bit of seasoning can’t fix.

Adele’s Shopping Tips:

  • Don’t go food shopping hungry - this is dangerous

  • Take a list so you keep on track

  • Look at what you already have and what you actually need

  • Plan, plan, plan - plan your meals so you don’t buy too much

  • Shop around - do your research online to the best deals in store (like my Bold washing tablets for £2.97)

  • Check out the discount section in the supermarket, you can pick up some amazing deals

January Degustabox - The Healthy Box

It’s that time of the month again…where my Degustabox arrives! This is my third box from the company and it surprises me every time. It’s one of my favourite times of the month now!

What I love is that some of the products can be used as ingredients to make some amazing food.

1. Alfa One Rice Bran Oil - £2

I loved that I got this purely because it can be used as your standard olive oil, such as for frying or roasting! To make it better it is nutritionally well balance and high in natural antioxidants, some of which has been shown to reduce cholesterol absorption, great huh?

2. Koko Dairy Free Original - £1.39

I’m yet to use this one but it was sent with a great recipe for pancakes seeing as pancake day is coming up! It contains less calories than skimmed milk, 0% cholesterol and is 100% allergen free. Apparently it tastes very similar to cow’s milk and doesn’t curdle in tea or coffee which is great!

3. Kabuto Noodles - £2

This is essentially an instant snack and is a combination of authentic Asian flavours and quality ingredients. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a huge fan of this and found it quite unappetising.

4. Sukrin Bread Mix - £5

When I found this I was certainly intrigued and I noticed you could use the mix to make a whole range of foods such as bread (duh!), tortilla wraps or scones. I opted for bread as I thought I would enjoy this most and I did. This is a gluten-free mix with only 1g of carbs per slice, um hand me some more please?! It is also free from wheat, egg, sugar, yeast and soya. You also only need to use water to bind so you don’t need anything extra.

5. Finn Crisp - £1.20

This is actually something my Mum always has in the cupboard so they must be good. I would probably have mine with feta cheese and some tomatoes and salad. Yum! It is rich in fibre, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and as it is baked with sourdough, it’s low in fat with a distinctive tangy flavour.

6. Magners Light - £1.25

I was also intrigued by this, alcohol with low calories? Send me more! There is only 103 calories per bottle and the Orchard Berries flavour is delicious.

7. Little Miracles - £1.49 each

This is a brand that I was already aware of. These were 2 new flavours I hadn’t tried before so it was good to try them and they were the perfect pick-me-up. They are non-carbonated, refreshingly light and contain only 90 calories per bottle. They also have no artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners. Essentially these are a tea based drink with added fruit flavours!

8. Mornflake - £1.50 each

I can’t say that I’m a massive fan of porridge but these were almost enjoyable. The great thing is that they come with either a little pot of golden syrup or nutella. My favourite would have to be the nutella one, who doesn’t love nutella?!

9. Haywards Piccalilli - £1.89

I’m yet to try this but I wouldn’t be so keen on it if it’s on its own. It came with 2 recipe cards which sound better! I’ll keep you all posted.

The last product was a special gift which was Clipper Green Tea with Lemon. Eek, more green tea!

So, all together the products total came to £20.71 so a saving of £8 seeing as I paid £12.99 for the box.

It was another great box this month and I cannot wait for this months box!

Adele’s Journey #1

Hello all you lovely people! I know it’s been a whole week since I last posted and I’ve been slightly MIA  (however you can follow me on twitter to keep up).

So I’ve recently gotten 3 exciting new things which I’ve been using to help with my fitness.

I got a Fitbit which my entire family now swear by, we all have one and now me and my sister have weekly competitions! If you are even considering getting one then you definitely should, I can’t recommend it enough. It definitely gets you motivated and keeps you active throughout the day.

I also now have Charlotte Crosby’s (the one from Geordie Shore) 3 Minute Belly Blitz DVD. I absolutely love it. It’s so much better doing rounds of 3 minutes and you realise that you can do so much more than you think. I’ve loved doing it and I find it’s much better than going to the gym.

Lastly, I have a beautiful new Nike tshirt which I’ve been wearing for working out. It makes working out much better because I want to be able to wear it!

So that’s my week wrapped up. I’m back in the head space to be writing again so expect much more this week!
