Top 10 Tips for Contacting Companies

Tonight I am hosting #lbloggers chat with the topic revolving around PR and Contacting Brands and Companies. I feel like this is a suitable topic, I haven’t seen a chat like this before and I definitely feel like I know enough to share a bit of knowledge with you.

I’ve contacted my fair share of companies for a number of reasons, sometimes I feel like I’m doing a blog post that needs a bit of back up using a product such as this festival post or I’m dying to try a new product like these Sebamed skincare products.

Either way, I’ve made up a fair few contacts that I know I can regularly work with.

  1. Personalise the email to the brand, they can see right through a generic email and you won’t get a reply.

  2. Include a bit about your blog, a link so they can see where you write.

  3. Act professional but also let your personality shine through.

  4. Add an ending such as “I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have” as they may reply with some questions for you!

  5. Keep note of which companies you have contacted so you don’t email them twice, that’s just too desperate!

  6. Don’t contact them for the sake of it, especially if it doesn’t fit with your blog, they won’t want to work with you either.

  7. Show passion and enthusiasm, it will go a long way.

  8. It’s almost like a job application so treat it like one. Sell yourself and sell the reasons why they should work with you.

  9. It is not about the free stuff, it is about the brand and creating good working relationships, you never know where it could lead to in the future.

  10. It should never be a half hearted job or you will never get anywhere.

This isn’t even half of the hard work. You’ve still got to write the blog post about the brand and the product afterwards. And then keep contact after hitting publish. I’ll save all of that for another day.

Feeling Unmotivated

This is certainly not a boohoo feel sorry for me and woe is me blog post but I have been feeling seriously unmotivated recently. I don’t want to do anything or even get out of bed and if I do it’s to get food. How awful is that? Just to get out of bed for food.

This post was brought on by a number of things; another blog post I read, my sister being worried about my health and the fact that when I was sorting my clothes out at home, I can't keep any of them from last summer as I've gone up 2 clothes sizes in a year. Yeah now I'm worried.

I used to look like this 4 years ago, and I also still have this dress. It's too pretty to get rid of. Just gunna go cry now.

I honestly need to get a grip and pull myself together. I know everyone says “Oh I’ll have a Netflix day” I do this whenever I’m not working. If I’m home then I’m in bed and Netflix is on. This is certainly not a way to live my life. Seriously how am I living like this? (although Once Upon A Time is so good and you should start watching it right now, like leave my blog and come back to it later, it is THAT good).

I recently read Emma from Essays and Wine Post about her weight and how she is dealing with that. I sat there crying for a good hour because I knew exactly how she felt. I could have a seriously great day but I could easily come home and eat a bag or two of crisps, sharing ones that is. It’s disgusting.

This was only last year. A year ago or so, that's a seriously drastic change in 3 years.

My biggest fears? I won’t get married or have children. This is all I’ve wanted for as long as I can remember and I know guys automatically friend zone me because of the way I look.

The biggest fear of all though, has to be the one that I’m going to end up killing myself because of all the awful food I put in my body. So why can’t I stop?

I am basically destroying my insides and I can’t stop. If you have the answer I will love you forever. Someone save me from this madness.

My sister has actually text me a number of times in the past few weeks practically begging me to try and get motivated because she’s worried about what I’m putting into my body. This in itself has hit a nerve and has really made me think that I’m ruining my life by it.

What’s worse is that this is actually the only part of my life I wish to change. I’m amazingly happy with my blog, I’m planning my trip of a lifetime, I’m going to be back with my family soon and I have people I can turn to when I need to. I also have a whole load of plans to go places and events to attend. In these aspects, I am in the best place I have ever been and for that I am unbelievably grateful. I know that opportunities are going so come knocking soon so I will be staying patient.

Does anyone have any tips for me to get back to healthy eating and exercising? Help me get motivated again please!

Top 10 Reasons To Go To A Blogger Meet

I know I’ve mentioned before all the lovely people I’ve met through blogging and they are people I definitely consider friends now. I wouldn’t have met these people unless it was for going to blogger meets. I’ve only been to 2 #MyChocBloggers and #ShropshireBloggerMeet but I met 2 completely different sets of people and had 2 experiences. I also have 3 more lined up in the coming months!

Twitter chats are also a great way to start talking to people, I talked to all these people first on twitter before meeting them which definitely helps.

Here are my top 10 reasons:

  1. You get to meet some wonderful people

  2. They have all of the same interests as you

  3. You get an experience you’ve probably never had before

  4. You get so much inspiration and motivation for your blog and life

  5. Everyone has different stories which are amazing to hear

  6. You could end up making some really great friends

  7. You learn about things you probably wouldn’t have otherwise

  8. You’re made aware of brands and could end up finding some of your most perfect products

  9. You get a huge burst of confidence knowing that you’ve done something totally out of your comfort zone

  10. Everyone is in the same boat as you

It is a very daunting concept if you haven’t been to a blogger meet up before but if you can find a little bit of confidence to go then you’re half way there. Everyone is incredibly nice and you can chat to people on twitter first so you know a few friendly faces when you get there.

shropshire blogger meet

It’s definitely worth finding out about events in your are so try and find the twitter accounts that are designates or search up a few hashtags to see what you can find.

Some that I would definitely recommend following are:

@LDNmeetup - some incredible events by some lovely girls

@bloggerslvehub - they have twitter parties meaning everyone can join in and some great gifting options on their website here

These are definitely my 2 go to twitter accounts when I want to find out whats going on!

Have you considered going to an event but been too nervous? How great are the events you’ve been to?

Festival Survival Guide

We are almost at that time of the year where we’re about to enter festival season. I want to share a few things that I’m going to be taking with me when I go to a festival for 4 nights and 5 days! It’s a long time so I want to be prepared for everything! We’re lucky enough to have showers where we’re going, to be honest that’s the one thing I don’t like about festivals, the lack of showers!

the ultimate festival kit

The first thing I’m going to pack in my bag is this selection of Halo wipes. I was kindly gifted these as part of the #ShropshireBloggerMeet Goody Bag. The selection of Halo* products include Eye makeup remover pads, Deodorant wipes, Hand wipes, Antibacterial multi-surface wipes, Fragrance Free Facial wipes and Moistured toilet tissue. All of these wipes come in a cotton fabric bag which is going to be perfect for carrying around essentials during the festival so nothing gets lost!

halo wipes

The Ultimate Festival Kit* was also sent to me and I cannot wait to use this at the festival! It’s got little bits that I know I would definitely end up forgetting if I hadn’t gotten this kit! It includes:

  • PVC poncho in pink (duh I wouldn’t wear anything else!)

  • Mini first aid kit

  • Carex wipes

  • Glow stick

  • Sanitary Products

  • “Festival Chic” Sleep Eye mask

  • Milaqua Waterless Shampoo

  • Hair ties

  • Chupa chups

  • Ear Plugs

  • UV Face and body paint

  • Sunscreen wipes

  • Condoms

  • Alacer Energen-C Rehydration Sachet

  • Travel toothbrush and toothpaste

  • Ecolips Natural Lip balm

  • Hand Gel

  • Tissues

This is such a long list of what is included in the kit! It also comes in a drawstring bag, much like the Halo one but much bigger so I’ll be taking that with me. I would have probably forgotten to take the fun things like glow sticks and face paint so I’m glad these got sent! I would also never have thought to take sunscreen wipes or waterless shampoo so I’m really grateful for these.the ultimate festival kitthe ultimate festival kitthe ultimate festival kit

Some other bits I’m going to be taking is shower products, a ridiculous amount of face wipes, minimal amount of makeup, body sprays, a camera, loads of water bottles and of course a few of those premade drinks cans you can get.

I feel seriously prepared with these two packs and I’m so excited thinking about getting ready for the festival now!

What are your essentials for a festival?

Magnitone #7DayChallenge

A few weeks ago I took part in #BHTwitterParty and I was lucky enough to be gifted with a Magnitone* Lucid which I was desperate to try! We got to choose between 4 colours; Plush Pink, Dazzling Blue, Aqua Green and Sunshine Yellow. I don’t think you even need a hint to know that I naturally chose pink.

magnitone lucid

I got a lovely letter in the box with my Magnitone which was a really nice touch to the gift. The Magnitone cleansing and exfoliation brushes offer the most up to date technology in deep cleansing your skin.  The easy-to-use brushes use gentle sonic vibrations to dislodge blackheads and whisk away dead skin cells, revealing a bright and glowing complexion.

I will just pop in here that I have suffered from bad skin for the best part of 10 years now and you can read about how thrilled I was when I use Sebamed’s products here. This has not affected my review at all as I have absolutely loved using my Magnitone.

I started of the 7 days with spots all along my chin and jaw line and I had one break out on my cheek, this is actually a good day for me! I also have a lot of blackheads on my nose which I hate and I’m really self conscious about. I just think they’re disgusting! I used my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish with the brush and the smell of this was incredible! The brush was really soft on my skin. I will admit it hurt a little but I know this is just because I have sensitive skin. My skin definitely felt a lot softer already which I was so pleased with, it’s never felt like this!

Over the next few days I noticed I was breaking out quite a lot and it was a little sore when I was using the brush, however I think this was due to the change in my skin care regime, having sensitive skin and also not having thoroughly cleaned my skin like this before. This will not stop me using it at all as I know that the break outs are just caused by getting rid of all the underlying crap in my skin. It’s going which is the most important bit!

I have definitely noticed that my skin was an awful lot softer which I am so happy with. I’ve also noticed that my blackheads have reduced! My nose looks a lot cleaner and even though this is a little thing, it means so much more than anything else! Now to tackle the spots!

I loved that when you use it, it beeps every 20 seconds and it turns off automatically after 60 seconds so you don’t use it for longer than necessary. It also comes with a great travel charger which is small and I will definitely be taking it with me when I go away!

I honestly cannot recommend getting a Magnitone Lucid enough. If you are looking for a cleaner complexion or you want to up your skincare regime to the next level then this is definitely worth it. I find that it does so much more than you could ever do by hand.

magnitone lucid

You can get your own Magnitone Lucid in any colour you fancy (but obviously pink is the best!) and get 20% off using the code Adele20 which means it is only £55.99 (RRP £69.99) which is quite frankly a bargain! Or go to this link here.

I think I’m going to do a little series about products for acne prone skin, it’s becoming a little mission of mine to improve the condition of my skin as I see a huge different when it has improved! Stay tuned for more! If there’s anything you recommend, do send them my way.

If you want to take part in the next Bloggers Hub twitter party, make sure you sign up to their website here.

Let's Party!

As many of you guys know it's my blogs birthday TODAY! A whole year has gone by and I've learnt so much and made so many new friends. It's crazy to think I've managed to stick at something for this long, but I’m so proud of it and I will never ever regret starting this.

bakerdays cake
Despite having a few people openly judge me because of it, I am proud of what I have achieved, the many new things that I have tried and the amazing friends that I have made through blogging.

I can remember a year ago clear as day. I was at home and I hit publish, I was petrified that no one would read it, people would hate it and I would get so much stick for it. In that first day I got hundreds of page views and obviously for my first day I was over the moon. I never knew what to expect and to be quite honest, I had no clue what I was doing or what I would write about next but I did it and I’m still here.

The first few months of my blog were a bit iffy, and I couldn’t decide what I wanted to categorise my blog as, was it health and fitness or food or was it lifestyle? So there is a mixture of everything. I had recipes, facts (which are boring as hell) and I had my journey.

It was a bit of everything but then I found all the twitter chats and I learnt a lot in a short space of time. I decided on a route for my blog, where I wanted to take it and what I wanted to write about.

My blog started to take off as I wrote about personal issues and fun recipes, and to be honest, life! I found my target audience (HEY GUYS!) and I knew a bit more about what I was doing.

I certainly don’t think that I’m a pro at this, hell I don’t think I ever will be, but I’m over the moon with where my blog is and what I’ve achieved, and as long as it stays that way I am more than content with that.

So here’s to the next year of blogging and the future. Pass the champers please.

PS Don't forget to enter my giveaway.

Dusty Girls Gift Set

I believe this is now my third post about the #ShropshireBloggerMeet, and I’ve still got 2 more to go. But Kirsty did such a good job with all of the raffle prizes and goody bags that I couldn’t help but to write about all of them! You can read about the meet here and my Library of Fragrance raffle prize here.

As you are probably aware, I entered the raffle and won two prizes, the first being the Library of Fragrance colognes and the second being this Dusty Girls* Gift Set.

dusty girls makeup

How cute is the tin bucket though? This is definitely taking pride place in my room for little bits that I need to keep track of!

Anyway, in my gift set I got “Sunshine” Natural Bronzer, “Pacific Shimmer” Natural Mineral Shimmering Lip Gloss and “Argyle Pink” Natural Mineral Lip Shine.

The great thing about all of these products is that I don’t have anything like them already! I only really use blusher, so using bronzer in the summer is going to be new for me! And I only use lip balms which I carry around in my bag so it’s going to be a change to use a lip gloss or lip shine for when I go out!

Dusty Girls was founded by the same people who founded MooGoo Skincare. MooGoo was founded when the founder adapted a cream to help a family member with a skin problem they had. The cream was full of skin repair ingredients and none of the bad artificial stuff! It grew as family and friends used the cream and MooGoo was born! Which obviously led on to Dusty Girls being made as well. They formed their makeup on the basis that your skin always looks great after a day in the countryside, “a bit dusty” but the colour and tone is on point! So they used the clays and minerals of the Earth to help improve our skin tone without any of the nasties. Also in their manifesto, “What is our number one beauty tip? Smile”. This made me smile, purely because of how true it is!

I didn’t know too much about the brand and products when I first got the prize, but I am completely won over now! The concept behind the brand is great and I’m so tempted by the MooGoo products as I have sensitive skin which is acne prone so it would be great to try some of their products!

“Pacific Ocean Shimmer” Natural Mineral Shimmering Lip Gloss

This reminds me of something I would have used about 10 years ago but this is definitely a more grown up version and it’s got a little bit more pigment to it. I was worried it would be silver but it’s more of a peach coloured shimmer which is so pretty! I’ll definitely be using this when I wear blusher, so I’m not too heavy on the pink!

“Argyle Pink” Natural Mineral Lip Shine

This is so pretty! I wasn’t sure how this was going to come, I thought it would be applied with a brush but it actually came in the form of a stick, similar to lipstick. When I first opened it, I thought it was really dark and there was no way I could wear something like that. But as I tested it on my hand, it came out quite thin and a lovely pink colour! I’ll be wearing this with the bronzer so there’s a bit more colour on my face!

“Sunshine” Natural Mineral Bronzer

I’m SO excited to use this. I’ve never owned a bronzer before which is a little bit daunting but it comes with directions printed in the box which I think is so cute! It also means I won’t look ridiculous because I’ll know I’ve applied it correctly!

This is such a great gift set and I’m so glad that I picked it. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram, I’ll be uploading some beaut selfies wearing this makeup so you can see what it’s really like!

The Library of Fragrance

As you may be aware, I attended the #ShropshireBloggerMeet on the 2nd May at the Two Henrys Pub. It was a great day which you can read all about here. I spoke about the raffle in this post and I was lucky enough to win 3 of The Library of Fragrance* colognes.

They smell INCREDIBLE.

the library of fragrance

The strangest thing is that I was telling Kirsty how I don’t have any perfume, just body spray from Victoria Secret, which my Mum brings back whenever she goes to New York, because it’s easier to carry it around in my bag and not worry about the bottle breaking.

So when my name got pulled out of the hat, so to speak, for the second time, I knew I had to choose these 3 fragrances! The 3 that I got were Cherry Blossom, Daisy and Fresh Laundry. I thought these were the most seasonal and to get into that summer feeling, I thought these would be perfect!

The idea of having these fragrances together is so that you can mix and match these fragrances together. That way I can smell like a summers day all year round!

A Little Guide To Layering:

  • I used some tissues to find my perfect combination and I think I might just have cracked it!

  • On their website here, they suggest to try a few combinations and write down how many sprays of each fragrance you use and in which order so that you don’t forget!

  • They also recommend that you apply the heavier, stronger scents first and the lighter, softer ones last, otherwise the lighter ones will get simply lost and covered up which is just a waste of perfume, and we’ve got no time for that!

the library of fragrance

I next gave myself a lesson in Mix, Match and Layering, I completely agree with their first sentence that each scent is beautiful just on its own. This way I’m going to be able to create scents that are unique to me and no one else! I also like that they say you can mix and match with other perfume brands and not just your own! I don’t think many brands would openly say something such as this.

It also happens that I won their #SurpriseSunday over on their Instagram so I chose the Sex on the Beach fragrance. It’s my favourite cocktail so I just couldn’t say no!

I think that this brand is not one to be missed and I’m definitely going to choose some fragrances from them for presents so I can give them to family and friends. It’s a bit more personal as I can then choose scents that remind me of them! I’ve already got a few in mind!

Have you ever tried their fragrances? What do you think of the scents I chose?

Shropshire Blogger Meet

On Friday night after work, I made the trek up to Shropshire to see Kirsty from Just A Little Bit Ginger and attend the Shropshire Blogger Meet on Saturday. It took me over 4 hours to get there because of the bank holiday weekend and road works going on. What a nightmare!

My beautiful heart clip from Prairie Charms

It was completely worth it though obviously! I got to see Kirsty again but I also met some other lovely bloggers on the Saturday. We arrived at the Two Henrys Pub half an hour early so we could set up! We had one table for the raffle and Sarah’s Stella and Dot pieces, and one table for the popcorn and the buffet.

For the first hour we networked and waited for everyone to arrive. Then we sat down and had a talk by a Smashbox representative which was great. I learnt a lot and we got a little primer sample to try but I think I lost mine. I also want their new contour sticks, they are amazing!

We then enjoyed a lovely buffet and chatted some more. Then Kirsty did her raffle, it was definitely the best raffle I have ever seen so I bought 10 tickets and my name ended up being pulled out 5 times! £10 well spent I think. Of course I didn’t take 5 prizes as that would simply be greedy, plus Kirsty put a cap on how many you could win at 2. I chose the Dusty Girls gift set which was beautifully packaged in a  tin bucket which had 3 of their products in and the other one I chose was a set of 3 The Library of Fragrance colognes! I will be doing separate posts on these, plus I won another fragrance on The Library of Fragrance’s Instagram so I will pop that in there too. It was a very lucky weekend for me!

shropshire blogger meet raffle dusty girlsthe library of fragrance

The raffle of course sparked more conversation as everyone was looking at what each other won! There were some really great prizes, Kirsty did so well.

We also had a couple more speakers, Sarah from Everything You Don’t Need To Know About Sarah spoke about her Stella and Dot pieces and the great parties you can have. I loved that all the pieces were so versatile and you can wear their pieces in so many ways. I also fell in love with one of their clutch bags, so I might have to order one!!

The second speaker was Chelsea from Loving Life In Wellies who is a full time blogger and gave us some of her top blogging tips! I’m going to keep those to myself though but I’m sure Chelsea will help you out if you give her a shout.

It was only my second meet up but it was such a great few hours and Kirsty did an amazing job organising and hosting it! She’s already made plans for a West Midlands Blogger Meet which I cannot wait for! I’m her voluntary assistant! I’m going to be trekking half way up the country for it!

I can’t recommend going to blogger meets enough, you meet so many like minded people and I’ve made some really great friends out of it. Next stop, Centerparcs!
