January 2017.

In my last post of 17 things in 2017, one of the things I wanted to achieve was to do monthly updates. So, here is the first one!

Working in a kids retail store means that the Christmas rush didn't really die down until the end of the first week of January, which is totally ok but I felt like it took a while to get started on any "projects"! However, I feel so motivated right now that there was no way I would let that defeat me.

I had the most wonderful New Year with Phil, we went to Bath and had dinner in Burger and Lobster and had to fight the food coma! We then drove back home and went to see some friends before it struck midnight.

January has very much been all about my week off. I was so productive and has so many trips out. To name a few I headed up to London for the start of birthday celebrations at Gaucho, possibly the latest dinner of my life and the next day we went to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, I won't go on about it but I will say it's one of the most incredible bits of theatre I have ever seen.

During my week off I spent a couple of days sorting admin bits out, tidying and chores I had been putting off since before Christmas and I simply did not have time until then. It was also my mum and sisters birthday, on the same day I might add, so while my parents were at the spa. I had a day with the dogs, to run errands and set up a balloon and presents and we had an incredible takeaway.

It has been so long since Phil and I had an alphabet date but we finally did another! It was my turn, and I had I. We had an impromptu visit to Southampton as we hadn't been for about 6 weeks so we could go to all the stores we wanted to. We then went to IKEA which was a pleasant eye-opener and we found all our dream furniture. Then we finished with Ice Cream. A simple date but one of the best!

Lastly, I started my degree through Open Uni, eek. I did start a week or so early mainly so I could ease myself into it slowly, which I am really glad I did. I've been enjoying it so far which I'm so pleased with. I'm gaining knowledge that I can use in my job already which is a bonus and it is helping me to understand why we do things a certain way. I can't wait to see what I will learn next!

All in all, I have had a great start to 2017, I feel so motivated and I can't wait to see what February holds. Plus, only a few weeks till another week off!

17 Things In 2017.

I have just had a week off and I'm now back at work for a long few weeks before a few extra days off again. I've been doing a lot of thinking, I know oh goodness this is not good, but hear me out. We are already at the end of January and I feel like I've just gotten over the Christmas and New Year rush at work, so I've got more time to myself to focus on what I need to. My point is, I will not let this year pass me by and I'm not achieving anything. I truly want to make this year count, so here is a list of 17 things I want to do to make 2017 count:
  1. Lose a Decent Amount of Weight
  2. Move Out
  3. Take a Weekend Break
  4. Make a Scrapbook or two
  5. Make an Inspiration Book
  6. Go on a Spa Day
  7. Go on a Cooking Course
  8. Have a Monthly Update Blog Series
  9. Go to all the Zoos
  10. Make a Travelling Bucket List
  11. Make a Movie Bucket List
  12. Go on the London Eye
  13. Be more Creative and make more Gifts
  14. Host a Dinner Party
  15. Write a Letter to Myself to open in the Future
  16. Go to Paris, preferably Disneyland Paris
  17. Save Money - have a damn good budget and stick to it
So there we have it, a list of things I would like to achieve this year. As part of my New Year's Resolution, these are very much about me, but are also experiences that I would like to share with Phil.

I want to make all the memories in 2017.

HM Hairdressing Launch Night

On Wednesday, I attended the grand opening of HM Hairdressing in Calne, Wiltshire.

This cute hairdressers is located on Wood Street and has such a warm feeling as you walk in. There were candles lit around the reception area and in the waiting area too.

The waiting area has a few black armchairs surrounding a coffee table. As well as two shelving units full of the amazing Aveda products that the salon are fortunate to use!

I was greeted by the hairdressers and by Azaria who is doing social media for the hair salon and who invited me along to the opening. 

After some chatting to the hairdressers, Azaria and Helen the owner of HM Hairdressing, I was treated to a Head, Neck and Shoulders massage, which I honestly needed after the week I've had! They used a selection of oils which you select one and take 3 deep breaths and suddenly you are more relaxed than ever. Mind had a slight lavender scent, not something I would normally go for but it smelt so good. This massage is a complimentary part of a cut and blow dry at the salon. As someone who works in retail, customer service is a big thing for me and this is top notch customer service. I was also treated to a hand massage, which was really great as well! The hand massage is complimentary with any colour treatment.

HM Hairdressing works with a whole range of Aveda products. I can only imagine having their products used on my hair for a cut and blow dry.

What's In My Makeup Bag

I do believe that this is my first What's In My Makeup Bag Blog Post! I can't believe that I have never  shared what I cram into my makeup bag! But hey, now is a good a time as any.

I got this amazing pink glittery Skinnydip Makeup Bag from my sister for Christmas, yes the glitter goes everywhere, yes it is so totally worth it.

I have packed it full of makeup I got just before and for Christmas so I have got quite a selection now.


I have recently bought this MUA foundation which is a new one for me but I have been enjoying using it. I tend to go for a matte foundation anyway as I find it covers up blemishes better and that way it seems like I have clearer skin. Oh, the beauty of makeup.

I also use a MUA powder on top of my foundation to set it, I have been using this one for years now and I wouldn't dream of buying another one now. I do tend to buy several when I do buy them as they never seem to have the right colour when I do actually need it.

I got this beautiful MAC blusher for Christmas which is such an incredible shimmery pink colour. It goes on so nicely, like a dream! It is called 'Just A Wisp' and is one of their Mineralize Blushers.

I also have been using the Rimmel Kate Moss Sculpting Palette* in 002 Coral Glow which is perfect for contouring and exactly colours that I would use as well. Especially the Coral Blusher, it's not too bright which is what I like about it.


Oh gosh, where do I start. I absolutely always have a black pencil eyeliner in my makeup bag, I wouldn't be able to live without it.

I have also been loving the Rimmel Scandaleyes Liquid Eyeliner*. It has been a while since I have used a liquid eyeliner as I would usually just use a felt eyeliner but mine is running out. I have enjoyed using the Rimmel Scandaleyes one as it gives a definite, bold black line and I am all about that.

The Rimmel Magnif'eyes Eye Contouring Palette* in 002 London Nudes Calling is actually stunning. On the back it has a diagram for which order to use the eyeshadows in, very much like contouring and it works amazingly! I'm off to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child this weekend and I will most definitely be using this eye palette!

Lastly for eyes, the one product to make them perfect, the Rimmel Wonderful Mascara*. I have been using this and also Benefit they're Real Mascara but I have to say the Rimmel Mascara works wonders for my lashes. It makes them so soft and look shiny, even when I'm not wearing makeup, which may have to do with the Argan Oil it has in it. My gosh it is incredible.


A lip product that I always have with me is the MAC lipstick in Peach Blossom. It's the first colour that I bought as I completely fell in love with it, and I am making my way through my second lot very quickly!

I have also been wearing the Rimmel Kate Most Lipstick* in 56 Boho Nude. I love the packaging, anything metallic is a winner for me, and I also love the colour of this one as it feels so much more sophisticated.


Naturally I have crammed as much as humanly possible into my makeup bag.

I also have Rose Gold Tweezers and a Blemish Wand from Vintage Cosmetics. These are both absolute life savers when I need them!

I tend to keep a face mask handy for when I need a bit of a pamper. This is one my sister got me for Christmas, it is a dead sea deep cleansing face mask, boy does my skin need it!

I'm also loving this Nails Inc Nail Varnish in baby pink, or Whitehall to be more exact. It goes with pretty much every outfit and matches my Kate Spade bag and Pandora Bracelet. So I'm all matchy matchy.

I also try to keep a Lush Lip Scrub in my makeup bag, as my lips do get dry and this gets away all the dead skin and leaves them feeling SO soft. I'm loving the Sugarplum Fairy one at the moment.

I also had to show you these beauties. Yes, you are seeing correctly, the most incredible Harry Potter Wand Makeup Brushes. My boyfriend is the best.

New Year, Healthy Start

I'm sure many blog posts, Facebook statuses and tweets have said "New Year, New Me" and that is totally ok. I have taken a slightly different approach to this. It is a New Year but I had a healthy start. If you read my #Goals post then you will see that weight loss is a big goal for me and I am working so hard towards it and I want this to be a lifestyle change! All can be done with a little help from Indigo Herbs*!

The lovely people over at Indigo Herbs helped out with a few products to get me started. I received:

Organic Supergreens Powder is a high quality superfood blend. It is a natural brain booster and mood enhancing, definitely what we need with those back to work blues, or in my case, keeping going from the Christmas rush until my week off next week. It is packed full of antioxidants and is immune boosting and bursting with B Vitamins. I can definitely notice a difference after I have put this powder into my green smoothies, as you cannot taste it and I can feel my body soaking up the vitamins and all  the energy boosts from it.

The Organic Super Protein Powder is a high quality vegan protein blend. This one naturally supports strong muscles, bones and tissue repair. It provides over 25% of the RDI of protein in 1 serving. This is a massive win for me. I am trying to make sure I have a good protein intake as it keeps me full, and it is also really good for after exercise, so if I can have some in my smoothie for breakfast, I will keep full until lunch time!

I have been enjoying a cup of the Indigo Herbs Super Cleanse Tea every day! I have it as part of a balanced diet, as recommended. As it states on the packaging, it has a sweet taste with a warm aniseed bite. I am mega fussy about my tea, I'm very British that way! Since this Super Cleanse Tea has ingredients in it like Liquorice Root and Ginger Powder. I honestly didn't think I would be a fan, but I cannot get enough of the stuff! I will say it is a loose leaf tea but that just gives me a good excuse to use my pug in a mug tea diffuser.

The last product to kick off my new year with a healthy start is the Super Vital Powder. Yes, another powder to add to my smoothies. I use a whole selection of powders to add to smoothies and I like to vary it day to day and also depending on what fruit and veg I am using. This blend has great nutritional values which gives a great boost and it also has vitamin C in it which is great for the immune system which at this time of year, I think we all need it!

So there it is, I have been able to kick off 2017 with a healthy start thanks to Indigo Herbs.

Why I've Decided To Do A Degree

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook then it will be no surprise to you the title of this post. But if you don't, then here it is, in February 2017 I will be starting a degree through Open University. I will be studying Business/Marketing and it will be part time and take me quite a while, but it means I can still work full time, move out with my Boyfriend and do everything else I have planned for this year which I just wouldn't be able to do if I was studying full time. 

It's something I was thinking about for 6 months prior to me applying for the course. Then I bit the bullet and decided to apply and see what happened. Well I'll tell you they accepted my application instantly, to which I was amazed and honestly did not think would happen, but here we are! I applied for my student loan and after weeks of waiting, the letter finally came through that I was accepted and would get the loan. It all happened so quickly and I don't know if I was quite ready. I absolutely wanted to do the degree but it was so scary, and all the thoughts going through my head.. "would I be able to balance everything?" "Could I get this done?" "Was it worth it in the long run?" "Is this even a good idea?"

The answer to all my questions was yes, of course I would be able to achieve anything I set my mind to. 

Open University was the best option, I could study in my spare time, I could go to tutorials on days off if I wished to, they sent through absolutely everything I needed. It means that I can start studying from the comfort of my own home with the world at my fingertips, literally. My books and everything I need are currently being posted out to me and I cannot wait to get stuck in to them on my week off, so I have a clear study plan when I start in February.

I will definitely be tracking my progress and keeping you updated with study updates and how I'm doing. It feels so odd to be a student again, and I'm sure people will forget that I am since I'm doing it part time. It's true I will have a lot on my plate from now on but it will be so worth it in the long run, I cannot wait to see what the future holds with doing a degree, and eventually having it too!

Yesterday, I gave you a 2017 post outlining my goals! I wanted to go into a bit more detail about them and how I intend on achieving them, as we all know, some goals aren't always easy to achieve.

I also posted similar goals last year, which you can read here, however I focused on other goals which I didn't share and it is fair to say that I achieved a good amount so I want to continue that into this year.

I've seen a lot of stick being given to people who are setting New Year's Resolutions, like are you being serious? It is no one else's business if you want to set Resolutions nor if you want to share them on social media or your blog. People are clearly jealous that they do not want to share or have their own New Year's Resolutions. You Do You.

I've set myself 5 main goals for this year, which I introduced here:
  • I really want to lose weight. I am so aware of health problems I might get in the future if I carry on the way I am. I won't lie, the first couple of days have been difficult as my body is so used to getting so much more food and I know it will get even worse before it gets easier, but I am so damn determined to do it, and I have the most supportive people around me, I cannot thank them enough. If I keep telling myself that I enjoy healthy food, I will start to right?! The plan is a smoothie for Breakfast, which I do find is actually enjoyable and it is filling enough. A Salad or Smoothie for lunch, I do prefer a salad as I'm actually eating and I can pack it full of protein, either Tuna or Chicken. Then a healthy dinner, lovingly made by my parents. Since the whole family are taking part for at least January, it means that we're all eating a healthy dinner together and also to motivate each other too. What are your top tips for losing weight?
  • Moving Out has been the goal for some time now so I am slowly putting away money to do this. It also seems much easier to do with someone else and also way more fun. Coming from a bit family, it would just be odd to then live on my own. Plus I'm massively fond of Phil, so that's a bonus.
  • I am so so bad at Saving Money and a lot of the time it is one of my biggest worries when it doesn't need to be. I am setting myself clear goals on how much to save and when so that I actually do it, along with moving out and going on all the trips I have planned.
  • I am very dedicated to my Blog, I want to put in a good effort this year with it and regularly post, I have got plenty of ideas for blog posts and I can feel myself getting more creative, instead of being straight to the point and not actually saying much! So expect some cracking posts soon!
  • I am terrible at Me Time, I could watch Netflix for hours but it seems like such a waste of time. I want to be blogging or exercising, both things that are for me. I've set out a timeline for the day in my Bullet Journal that is colour coded, so I can accurately track my time and know how I am using it. I'll let you in on a secret, it's mostly work and sleep. But for those few hours I'm not doing either of them, I'm doing pretty well at being productive...now just to carry that on for the foreseeable future!
I am very much someone who will Treat Every Day Like a New Day. Like if I have a bad eating day or an unproductive day then the next day is a new day and I can start again so it isn't all that bad!

2016 wasn't all that bad for me, it was interesting I'll give you that much but it was in a good way. Sure, it had its bad bits but it also had the damn best times I have ever had, which makes me all the more excited for 2017.

This morning I woke up to the best guy I know and I intend to spend so many more mornings like this one, me blogging, him saying he needs 5 more minutes. We spent last night eating and drinking at Burger & Lobster in Bath, it was so delicious, highly recommended! Then we drove back to Salisbury to go to a small gathering with friends, drinking and talking to the early hours. It was probably the latest I have stayed up all year but I was still ready to go at 9am this morning!

I have already told you what to expect on Adele Louise Smith next year, if you missed it you can read it here. I also have Social Media goals of my own but didn't want to share them just yet, however I struggle so much with growing my stats, does anyone have any hints and tips they can share?!

I thought I would also share a few more goals for 2017 for me:
  • Lose Weight, I keep saying this but it truly is a big one for me, my family have set themselves a challenge for January, so we are all in it together and can motivate each other
  • Move Out, I cannot wait to be able to spend more time with Phil/drive him up the wall living with me!
  • Save Money, I am shocking at spending money so quickly, I've been better the past few months despite Christmas however I still need to reign it in some more.
  • Blog, obviously this was shared in my What To Expect post last month, but I truly want to make more of an effort to blog!
  • More Me Time, I must admit I am a pretty selfless person, I always put others before myself, but this year I have a lot of projects that require my full attention and mean I won't be able to be as selfless as I really will need to put these first, this is one I think I will struggle with the most!
